Linda Decker’s Bear Story

Linda writes a story about the first bear encounter, there have been several since! Drought and forest fires in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the 90’s propelled game out onto the eastern plains. Today we have elk, mountain lions, and bear which were not around in my days at the ranch. ST

Dawson

The Dawson Railroad runs through the ranch. It was built in 1903 to haul coal from the Dawson mines mainly to copper smelters in Arizona and it supplied the motive power to all of Southern Pacific’s steam engines.
